Support Crew
Important Information:
Please arrive at the venue by 6:45 AM if this is your first time helping an athlete in this race; 7:00 AM if you are a veteran. Keep in mind, you (the support) are critical to the athletes success on race day. There are always a couple of support crews who get lost and ruin the day for their athletes due to poor planning. Please don’t let this be you. Plan ahead and know where you are going and how long it will take to get there. The following is how you will help your athlete.
There will be a MANDATORY Support Crew pre-race meeting at 7:30 AM near the beach.
1. When the kayak is done, please quickly get your athletes boat on your car and clean up their transition area. You can drive your car closer to the river to pick up the kayak and we will have helpers with lifting the boat onto the car. Anything left at the transition area (where the bikes were) is at the racer's risk. No one will be watching the area and it is open to the public. Odds are good anything valuable will not be there 3 hours later.
2. It is not imperative for you to follow your athlete on the bike route with your car. If you do drive the bike route, DO NOT DRIVE SLOW NEXT TO THE BIKER. You may go ahead and get out of your car to cheer them on. The tops of long hills are a great place for this. We will have a car cleaning up the course after the last athlete so no one will get stuck out there. Keep in mind, they are cycling a different route than the car directions to the mountain that are listed on the Directions Page. Find out how long your athlete expects to take to get to the mountain on their bikes. Make sure you give yourself 30 minutes to set up their shoes, towel, food or liquids.
3. When you get to Mt. A, please park below the transition area on the right side of the road (not in the dirt trailhead parking lot). You should set up an area for your athlete in the transition area (running shoes, towel, change of shirt, energy bar or drink). It will take the athlete 20-50 minutes to run to the summit.
4. Each athlete gets one free barbeque for themselves and one for their support. Extra food is $10 per adult, $5 per child. You may purchase food on race day.
Thanks for your support. Without you this race would not be possible. Also please thank the volunteers along the way. It will make their day.
